Affection of Sexual Health and Pregnancy

Women who smoke approximately a pack of cigarettes per day can double the amount of time it takes to achieve pregnancy. Heavy alcohol consumption among men can severely decrease their fertility. If both partners smoke and drink, their ability to get pregnant is considerably less than those who do not. Other factors should be considered when determining the reasons pregnancy may be difficult for a couple. Typically, there is never one sole reason, but several factors combined can make achieving pregnancy difficult. This may also include the intake of caffeine you find in teas or coffees.

The male’s reproductive function can be severely affected when consuming large quantities of alcohol. As testosterone levels decline, the structure and movement of the sperm is inhibited along with slowing down the production of sperm. Alcohol is toxic to the testes; this in turn reduces the amount of sperm and testosterone production.

Sperm is susceptible to genetic damage and of toxins. This will be present in the seminal fluid and sperm. If the male has been exposed to any environmental toxins, they will also be present in the sperm as well. There are studies that suggest if a couple is trying to become pregnant, they should refrain from alcohol consumption for several months before attempting to conceive. It can be said that there is no safe drinking limit for men who want to conceive and are concerned with their sexual health.

One of the effects that alcohol has on the immune system is that it becomes depressed, adversely affects the live, and can be a cause of malnutrition. There is the possibility of giving birth to a child with genetic damage because of the consumption of alcohol. This can increase the likelihood of physical or mental disabilities within the child. If the sperm has been exposed to toxins such as those found in alcohol, there is a possibility of permanent damage to reproductive ability. When couples are trying to conceive they should both consume foods that are high in nutrients, low in toxins. This diet should begin this no later than three months prior to the time of trying to conceive. This will greatly enhance their ability to become pregnant.

Some studies suggest the ratio of men and women in the world can be an indication of the population’s general health. How they come to this conclusion is based on the knowledge that the male sperm and embryos are significantly frailer than females. More than fifty percent of the babies born are male. Although this sounds encouraging, more births are now female and those who do the research believe it is due to the toxins being consumed and affecting the sperm.

You may find it interesting that even a small amount of alcohol can decrease the size of an erection. Alcohol may lessen inhibitions but it can also adversely affect performance, reduce fertility, and dampen the satisfaction of the sexual encounter. Here are some of the effects that moderate alcohol consumption has upon the sexual experience:

Fewer to zero orgasms

Longer foreplay is necessary to obtain an erection

Diminished lubrication

The sperm count is lowered and impotence can occur with the consumption of alcohol in men. Hormonal changes and irregular menstruation along with infertility can be the effects of alcohol consumption among women. There have been findings suggest that prostate disease is related to alcohol consumption. Alcohol decreases the body’s ability to absorb nutrients through the carcinogenic properties of alcohol. The cold, hard truth is that surgery does not always work in treating prostate cancer, and if the cancer seems to be in remission, it does not stay there long. If prostate cancer is found early, enough changing the diet and lifestyle can have a positive effect by slowing the disease, possibly stopping it, or even reversing it.

The human body is a remarkable piece of machinery, and if properly taken care of, will benefit greatly. The body has an ability to heal themselves if one stops consuming products that are causing the damage. If a couple is trying to get pregnant and engaging in behavior that is opposite of their goal, it is important to consider changing or modifying the actions that can lead to difficulty getting pregnant and/or possible infertility.
